A Guide to Rewards in Footium
Introduction
Footium launched on Arbitrum in April of 2024. One of it’s key aspects is its detailed and transparent rewards system. You’re probably reading because you want to know more. The long and short: this system is designed to reward club owners for their strategic gameplay, and competitive success.
Alongside this, Footium is determined to ensure sustainable rewards : not artificially inflated, and not reliant on a constant stream of new users.

The information below is our current rewards system, but this may change in future — we’ll always push to make the necessary changes to ensure the rewards are sustainable.
With this in mind, the document below outlines how rewards are currently collected, attributed, and distributed across divisions, ensuring that all participants have a clear understanding of the mechanisms driving rewards within the Footium ecosystem.
How does it work at it60% of fees accumulated in Season 1 will also contribute to reward totals, and 80% of any further fees collected before Season 1 pre-season starts, too.
*All figures assume an ETH price at $2250 as of the publication date of this article.

These amounts will form the basis for the distribution of rewards within each division, rewarding top-performing clubs based on league standings and performance over the course of the season — dollar amounts may vary due to changing ETH prices.
These rewards will be earned through a clubs final position within their league table. In Season 1, clubs will be rewarded a fixed portion of their leagues rewards dependent on their results in the final league table, these are:
1st: 42% 2nd: 26% 3rd: 16% 4th: 10% 5th: 6%
Rewards Collection
So how are rewards kept sustainable? Footium’s rewards are funded through various in-game transactions. These currently include:
- Player Sales : A 5% fee is applied to all player transactions, with 90% of the fee allocated to rewards.
For example: a player sells for 0.1eth, the creator fee takes 0.005eth, 0.0045eth of this is allocated to rewards, while 0.0005eth goes to Footium’s revenue.
- Academy Mints : 90% of the fees collected from academy player mints are allocated to rewards, with the remaining 10% retained as revenue.
For example: a player is minted at a cost of 0.1eth, 0.09eth is allocated to rewards, while 0.01eth goes to Footium revenue.

Player Sales Attribution
The attribution of player sales to rewards is determined by the division of the buying club. This system is intended to create an incentive for spending and functions as a form of distributed cashback to clubs that spend money by buying players.
The process is as follows:
Player Minimum Matches: We are currently working on an improved registration system which will improve user onboarding and make the player sales fee attribution more straightforward. Until it is fully implemented, a player is considered bought by a club if the player is in the team for at least three consecutive matches. If it’s not possible to clearly connect a player and a club by the end of the season after the sale, the reward allocation is assigned to the Unassigned reward allocation of the current season.
Examples:
- Player A : Bought by the owner of Club X during Season 1, immediately registered to Club X, and remains with Club X for the remaining 10 games of Season 1 → Reward quota contributes to the rewards of the division of Club X.
- Player B : Bought by the owner of Club X and Y during Season 1, registered to Club X, but after 2 games is unregistered and registered to Club Y, where the player stays for 8 games → Reward quota contributes to the rewards of the division of Club Y.
- Player C : Sold to a wallet that owns no clubs during Season 1 and remains there until the end of Season 2 → Rewards quota is allocated to the Unassigned Rewards.
- Player D : Sold to a wallet that owns one or more clubs during Season 1 but remains unregistered until the end of Season 2 → Reward quota is allocated to the Unassigned Rewards.
- Player E : Bought by the owner of Club X during Season 1, registered to Club X but after 2 games is sold again and registered to Club Y, where the player stays for 8 games → Fees from the first transaction goes into the Unassigned rewards, fees from the second transaction goes into Club Y division
- Player F : Bought by the owner of Club X during Season 1, registered to Club X but only for the last game of the season, but continues playing for Club X in Season 2 → Reward quota is attributed to the division of Club X at the moment the requirement is met in Season 2 (if the club is promoted or relegated, it contributes to the Season 2 division).
Academy Mints
Academy mint attribution is very simple: Footium takes a 10% revenue share of academy mint fees, the rest (90%) of academy mint fees contributing to the rewards is attributed to the division of the club minting the academy player.

Rewards Attribution
As mentioned, the total rewards are split within divisions, with the rewards allocated to each division equally distributed across the leagues inside the division. A team’s total contribution to the pool is divided amongst the leagues it shares a division with.
This approach is crucial to maintaining fairness, particularly in leagues with inactive teams. It also incentivises players in higher divisions with potentially larger rewards, as leagues with higher academy mint costs, and more competitive trading practices will naturally attract more spending, and therefore have higher pool sizes, not impacted by the spread of lower spending divisions.
Because we build pool totals via minting and spending, there’s a possibility that a division below yours may have more rewards— if minting and trading is more active within that division for the season, and it surpasses the impact of league split.
For example: Division 2, with 2 leagues (24 teams), has 4eth worth of rewards contributing actions in Season 1. Split between the two leagues the assignment to each league is 2eth.
The division below: Division 3, with 4 leagues (48 teams), has 12eth of rewards contributing actions in Season 1. Split between the four leagues the assignment to each league is 3eth.
Unassigned Rewards
As we’ve previously mentioned, there is also an ‘unassigned’ reward allocation, which accumulates contributions from unclaimed or unassigned rewards. For example: from player agent trades who don’t own a club. This allocation is distributed equally across all leagues, benefiting lower divisions.

Footium takes a 50% cut of unclaimed and unassigned rewards, with the 50% remaining distributed uniformly across all leagues the season after. This extra pool particularly benefits lower divisions, which typically have a higher number of leagues, helping to boost engagement and competitiveness.
Calculation of League Rewards
After determining the rewards collected by each division in each season, it is necessary to determine how this pool will be split among:
- Leagues : All leagues within each division will have the same reward amount, as the division’s rewards is divided by the number of leagues.
- Seasons : The rewards collected in each season will not be rewarded completely during the present season, but distributed over multiple seasons, to prevent drastic variance in the reward values. This method provides two main benefits:
- At the beginning of a new season, the reward starts using a portion of previous season’s pool, and any unassigned rewards not claimed, kicking off rewards at a non-zero total.
- This system makes the rewards distributed during a season a weighted moving average of the rewards collected in previous seasons, making the rewards more stable.

Positional Reward
These league rewards will be earned through a clubs final position within their league table. In Season 1, clubs will be rewarded a fixed portion of their league’s rewards dependent on their results in the final league table, for the first season, the percentages are:
1st: 42%
2nd: 26%
3rd: 16%
4th: 10%
5th: 6%
Claiming Rewards
But what about claiming? The process for claiming rewards is designed to ensure that only active participants receive their rewards and that unclaimed rewards are reallocated to maintain Footium’s rewards.
Eligibility and Ownership
The winner of a real-money reward is determined by the final position of a club in that season, and the owner of the club at a time between the end of the last game of the season, and the season transition. (We’ll be sure to communicate this date and time before Season 1 ends.)
This ensures that rewards are awarded to the correct participants, based on their performance throughout the season.
Key Points:
- Rewards will be claimable at the start of the next season. For example, rewards from Season 1 will be available for claiming after the transition from Season 1 to Season 2 is complete.
- Users have until the end of the next season to claim their rewards. If they fail to claim within this period, the reward will be reallocated to the Unassigned rewards for the upcoming season. For example, if Club X wins 0.05eth in Season 1 but does not claim it during Season 2, 0.025 will go to Footium revenue, and 0.025 will go into the Unassigned rewards to be awarded in Season 3.
- Rewards are tied to a wallet, not to a club. The awarding of rewards happens at a time between the end of the last game of the season, and the season transition.
- If User A sells Club X after the beginning of Season 2, they retain the ability to claim any rewards won by Club X in Season 1.
- If User B sells Club Y to User C before the owner snapshot for rewards for Season 1, even if the sale occurs after the last game of Season 1, the reward will be claimable by User C.
Eligibility Actions
Club owners are not automatically eligible for rewards. Footium has defined clear criteria to ensure that only active and legitimate participants receive rewards.
There is now an active/inactive system in place for Footium — clubs that are inactive will not be able to claim rewards. Active clubs are defined as clubs that have made at least one of the below actions in the current season:
- Set a line-up in the tactics page
- Mint an Academy Player
- Register a Player
- Make a change during a live match
- Train a player

If a reward is won by a club deemed non-eligible due to lack of skill, that reward will automatically be assigned to the Unassigned rewards of the next season, 50% of the rewards will be taken as Footium revenue, and the other 50% of the rewards will be distributed across the FFL pyramid.
If we receive funds from addresses that are flagged as having a sanctions designation by Chainalysis (for example, being linked to a large DeFi hack) then those funds will be not be allocated towards any rewards. Those clubs in sanctioned wallets will also be unable to claim rewards. This is not a current issue for any of our holders.
Reward Attribution Periods
While the previous sections detail how rewards are maintained and distributed, it is also important to establish clear periods for when these calculations are made and how Club Owner and Player Agent spend is attributed to specific seasons.
Attribution Logic:
- Player Minting : The reward contribution from academy mints is attributed based on the season during which the player is minted.
- Transfer Market Transactions : These are attributed to the season during which the relevant activity occurs.
A ‘season’ is the period between a major footium version release and the next. For example:
- v1.0.0 was Season 0
- v2.0.0 is Season 0.5
- v3.0.0 will be Season 1
- v4.0.0 will be Season 2
The minor version (middle number) is for new features introduced after a season release (left number after V). While the patch version (right number) is for quick bug fixes after a season release.
For example: The reward fees from player minting and transfer market transactions between V3.0.0 and the release of V4.0.0 is directly attributed, and contributes to Season 1’s rewards.
Assigning Rewards to Winners
The timing of when the rewards for a given division is finalised and when rewards are assigned is critical. This aligns with key events in the Footium season, alongside version release, such as the de-spawning of old academy players and the spawning of new ones.
Flow:
- The new season begins with a version release, and the de-spawning of the previous season’s academy players alongside new academy players spawned.
- Once these conditions are met, and the hub is brought live for club owners, the rewards are calculated, approved, and made final.
Conclusion
As we’ve detailed above, the reward payout system for Footium’s Season 1 has been meticulously designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and engagement for all club owners. By aligning reward distribution with division-specific performance, we aim to reward strategic gameplay and active participation.
The integration of clear rules for reward attribution, based on player sales, academy mints, and league performance, means that every transaction and decision made by club owners can have a direct impact on their potential rewards. Additionally, the inclusion of the Unassigned rewards further encourages engagement across all divisions, particularly benefiting lower-tier clubs.
As we approach Season 1, Footium is committed to providing a gaming experience that not only challenges your football management skills but also confers your dedication real rewards. We believe this system not only incentivises competition but also ensures that every club, no matter the division, has a chance to climb the ranks and win significant rewards.
Season 1 Current Rewards
With the reward calculations mentioned above, we are excited to share the current rewards for each division for Season 1, which will increase dependent on minting and trading activity during the season.
These rewards have been calculated based on academy mints, player sales, and other factors, and are a starting point for Season 1s total pools, as further fees collected will contribute to the season’s reward totals. Season 2 will also receive further funding from Season 1 fees, and currently has a FPL Pyramid total of circa. 8 ETH.
These amounts will form the basis for the distribution of rewards within each division, rewarding top-performing clubs based on league standings and performance over the course of the season — dollar amounts may vary due to changing ETH prices.
