Living Roadmap Update July 2025

Overview

Welcome back to another edition of the Footium Living Roadmap! As a reminder, we publish a living roadmap update every few months to give you all a reminder about what we have been working on and plan to work on in the near future.

Emotional Intermission

Before we dive into that, the entire Footium team wanted to give a massive THANK YOU to the entire community for helping us build what we have today. It has been over 3 years of hard work in the making, and there are many more to come, but seeing what has been built in collaboration with you all so far is inspiring.

The world that you all have created through truly embracing the ownership and stewardship of your Footium Clubs was a key part of our vision for Footium, and every match result tweeted, ai-generated image posted & nail-biting end of season story shared really does motivate us to keep pushing Footium further forward each day. I know we say this frequently but you really are a key reason Footium is where it is today, and we are excited to continue building Footium alongside you all, through thick and thin ❤️.

The Living Roadmap

Ahem… back to the roadmap - It’s called the ‘Living’ roadmap because it will almost definitely change each time, as business priorities, metrics and user feedback inevitably change over time.

As you can see below, our focus right now is on improving the onboarding process into Footium, to make it much easier for traditional football gamers to start playing the game. We’ve seen from the cohort of OG users as well as new users over the last few months, that Footium is an incredibly retentive game once people get their hands on it.

Currently, it is a herculean challenge to onboard into Footium compared to other football games, and this means our ability to market and grow the game efficiently is severely hindered. It requires:

Quite frankly its a miracle any of you managed to start playing Footium!

Starting our growth era after building, iterating on, launching and continuing to build on top of for the last 3 years is a very exciting prospect, and we have some super exciting campaigns planned once it is easier to onboard into playing Footium.

Growth is great for a wide range of reasons, across the game (more feedback more frequently and more managers to engage with), the economy (more demand for players, more spending going into rewards) and the company (more users + spend = more revenue, meaning more resources to put into improving the game faster!).

These onboarding improvements are an important step on our journey to becoming a genre-defining football game, which ultimately will require a lot more development, feedback, iteration and growth!

Feature Roadmap July 2025

Group 395244 (2)

Since the last update in March, we’ve ticked off some of the things on Roadmap and some which weren’t on that roadmap, including:

In the background:

As you’ve likely already seen in yesterday’s Season 10 announcement, we have made some further changes to the Academy prospect generation per division based on the feedback + metrics from the Season 9 changes. We know academy drop day (or Footiumas as some have begun calling it) is a highlight of the season. The communication around ‘star players’ prior to Season 9 was overzealous & the drop in base ratings of academy prospects was quite sharp leading to disappointment on the day. We’re always keeping a keen eye on the state of the game economy, acting in what we believe to be the game’s best long-term interests.

The changes we’ve made for Season 10 are aimed to ensure each division’s academies are of a quality that allow them to be competitive in their relevant division (after some training of course!), whilst still ensuring that the benefits from the academy for being in a higher division are noticeable and not damaging the economy long-term.

Looking Back

Across the first 11 seasons (including 0 + 0.5), Footium has seen:

Looking Forwards

As per the last Living Roadmap Update, our vision for the future of Footium still includes the expansion of club ownership features, deeper tactical management & engine improvements, and stronger structures and support for the social side of Footium. You can read all about that towards the end of our previous Living Roadmap Update.

Overall, Footium is in the strongest place it has ever been, with an active and engaged userbase, a live game battle tested over 10 seasons, and a clear path towards growth following onboarding improvements.

There’s a fair few exciting updates in the locker as well that we can’t quite share just yet, but keep your eyes peeled 👀.

Best of luck in Season 10 to everyone still reading, and guaranteed red cards every game to all those who stopped reading ages ago!
