New club options, referrals and the Season 22 Gaffers League
Footium now has three ways to turn your Caretaker Club into a permanent club, starting from $19.99.
Every option gives you permanent ownership of your club, academy access, transfer-market access and full FFL rewards eligibility. The main difference is what happens to your squad, how much FC you receive and whether you qualify for referral rewards and the Season 22 Gaffers League.

Start free as a Caretaker
Every Footium journey can still begin for free.
As a Caretaker Manager, you take charge of a club for the season. You set your line-up, train players, manage matches and compete across a full Footium season.
If you want to keep building beyond that caretaker spell, you can now choose one of three ownership paths.
Community Takeover: $19.99
Community Takeover is the lowest-cost way to own your club permanently.
It is best for managers who want to build their next squad themselves through the academy and transfer market.
With Community Takeover:
- You keep your current caretaker squad until the end of the current season
- That squad then leaves when the season ends
- You receive 10,000 FC
- You unlock academy access, transfer-market access and long-term club progression
- You do not qualify for referral rewards or the Gaffers League
Choose Community Takeover if you want the club, the academy and the long-term save, but you are happy to build the squad from there.

Local Backer: $39.99
Local Backer is for managers who want to keep the squad they have been using as a Caretaker.
With Local Backer:
- Your current caretaker squad stays at your club until each player retires
- Those players can train, develop and play for your club as normal
- The retained players cannot be traded
- You receive 85,000 FC
- You qualify for referral rewards
- You enter the Season 22 Gaffers League
Local Backer also counts as an eligible upgrade for Season 22 referral rewards, including the Gold player bonus.
Investor Group: $79.99
Investor Group is the strongest starting point for managers who want a new tradable squad.
With Investor Group:
- You receive 17 players ready to play
- You receive three 26-year-old Bronze players through your academy within a few days
- All 20 new players are tradable
- Your previous caretaker squad leaves at the end of the season
- You receive 375,000 FC
- You qualify for referral rewards
- You enter the Season 22 Gaffers League
Choose Investor Group if you want to begin with more depth, more FC and a fully tradable squad.
What is the Season 22 Gaffers League?
Every manager who upgrades through Local Backer or Investor Group enters the Season 22 Gaffers League.
The Gaffers League works like a cross-FFL Friends League. You keep playing the same fixtures in your normal league, but the points you earn there also count towards the Gaffers League table.
That means managers from different divisions and leagues can compete directly, based on the points they earn in their own league matches.
The manager who finishes top of the Season 22 Gaffers League wins a Rare player.
Your points from earlier in the season still count if you upgrade later. If you are having a strong caretaker season, upgrading before the season ends can still put you into the Gaffers League with the points you have already earned.
The Gaffers League resets each season. A qualifying purchase enters you for the season in which you upgrade.

Referral rewards now begin while your friend plays for free
Your friend does not need to purchase anything before you can earn a referral reward.
When a new manager joins Footium through your unique referral link:
Rewards are checked against genuine play activity, so FC is granted once the new manager has properly started playing.

How your referral rewards stack up
There are three ways to earn from every friend you invite:
- They join for free: You earn FC when they join and remain active.
- They upgrade: You receive cashback and FC if they choose Local Backer or Investor Group.
- You climb the ladder: Every eligible upgrade increases your referral total, unlocking additional players, FC and coaching sessions along the way.
These rewards stack. Your free-to-play reward, upgrade reward and referral milestone reward can all be earned from the same friend.
This means you can invite a friend to try Footium as a Caretaker Manager without asking them to spend anything upfront. You will earn FC as they get started, and their referral remains connected to you if they decide to upgrade later.
If they purchase Local Backer or Investor Group, you will also receive the relevant cashback, FC, referral ladder progress and any active seasonal bonuses.
Community Takeover does not trigger the additional purchase rewards or count towards the referral milestone ladder.

For a referral to count, the new manager must join Footium through your unique referral link and then complete an eligible upgrade. They can start as a Caretaker first and upgrade later, as long as their account came through your link.
What your friend receives
If your friend upgrades through Local Backer, they receive:
- Three tradable Common players
If your friend upgrades through Investor Group, they receive:
- Five tradable Common players
- Two tradable Bronze players
- Five coaching sessions
What you receive
If your friend upgrades through Local Backer, you receive:
- 20% cashback on their purchase
- 100,000 FC
- Progress towards the referral milestone ladder
- Any active seasonal referral bonus
If your friend upgrades through Investor Group, you receive:
- 20% cashback on their purchase
- 200,000 FC
- Progress towards the referral milestone ladder
- Any active seasonal referral bonus
Season 22 bonus: refer three friends and earn a Gold player
During Season 22, refer three or more friends who complete an eligible Local Backer or Investor Group purchase and you will receive a Gold player.
The $39.99 Local Backer option counts towards this target in the same way as the $79.99 Investor Group option.
Three successful eligible referrals during Season 22 unlock the Gold player bonus on top of the usual cashback, FC and referral ladder progress.
Does my friend need to purchase a club before I receive a referral reward?
No. You receive 10,000 FC when a genuine new manager joins through your referral link, followed by another 40,000 FC once they have been active for three days.
If they later upgrade through Local Backer or Investor Group, the full purchase referral rewards are added on top.
How to find your referral link
To find your unique referral link:
- Open the Social section in Footium
- Select the gift icon to open Referrals
- Copy your unique link
- Send it to your friends
Your friend must use that link when joining Footium for the referral to connect to your account.
Which option should you choose?
Choose Community Takeover if you want the cheapest route into permanent club ownership and you are ready to build a squad yourself.
Choose Local Backer if you want to keep your current caretaker squad and qualify for referrals and the Gaffers League.
Choose Investor Group if you want the strongest start, a new tradable squad and the biggest FC allocation.
