What’s New in Season 12 — Social Sign-Ins, Fixture Shakeup & More
Pre-Season Begins: Thursday, September 25th
First Matches Kick Off: Tuesday, September 30th
Season 12 marks a special milestone for Footium, during this season, it will be one year since we officially went live with Season 1.
Over that year we’ve seen promotions, relegations, legendary auctions, community meetups, and hundreds of thousands of matches played. Footium has come a long way since launch and there’s still plenty more to do.
This season continues that journey by making the game easier to get involved in, fairer and more exciting to be part of. From smoother onboarding to better fixture scheduling, a new nationality and the return of Legendary Auctions with GBM, Season 12 continues sets Footium up for an even bigger future.
Let’s dive in.

🔑 Social Sign-In Wallets
It’s no secret we’ve been putting a huge amount of research and work into improving onboarding. Last season we ticked off a major sticking point by moving the transfer market in-game instead of relying fully on OpenSea. The next big barrier to close is another third-party hurdle: creating a wallet, something that can feel scary and daunting for a first-time Web3 user.
For new players, one of the biggest sticking points has always been wallets, the confusion of needing to set one up on a third-party site before you can even start playing the game.
That barrier is gone in Season 12.
Because this is a fundamental change to how accounts and wallets are managed in Footium, we’ll be rolling it out in two steps:
- From day one of Season 12, you’ll see a new Privy pop-up when logging in with your wallet. This will replace the old flow but still allow you to connect to the site with an existing wallet, effectively the same way you do now.
- During the season, we’ll launch the ability to create a Footium account directly with a simple email or social login. Behind the scenes, a secure non-custodial wallet is created for you via Privy, a trusted provider powering huge projects across Web3.
This is one of the biggest onboarding improvements we’ve ever made. It massively lowers the barrier for new managers, allowing them to set up an account for Footium and start playing immediately, with no need to store complex seed phrases.
Social Sign-In Wallet FAQ
How do I add funds to my account?
Within Footium you can copy your wallet address. You’ll then send ETH on Arbitrum to that wallet from an exchange such as Coinbase or Binance.
We’re also working on adding a fiat onramp, so you’ll be able to purchase players on the transfer market, buy academy graduates, and visit the store using your credit/debit card directly in-game.
Can I still use my Web3 wallet without a social login?
As before, managers who prefer using their existing wallet directly can still connect them to Footium and interact with the game in the exact same way.
Who controls my social wallet?
The wallet is non-custodial. That means it’s created for you but you still own it, not us. You’ll always be able to export or migrate it in future if you want. Learn more here.
Is it safe?
Yes. Your wallet is created securely on the backend via Privy when you sign up, and your assets remain yours at all times. Privy is trusted by leading projects across Web3. Creating a social wallet with privy creates 3 encrypted shards (parts of the private key) that are stored in different places (one on the user’s device, one in privy’s backend and one in an AWS Nitro Enclave (secure storage). This allows easy usage as well as recovery if a device is lost.
Do I need to install MetaMask or Rabby?
No. Social sign-ins remove the need for extensions. You can play Footium entirely through your social login if you want.
Can I switch between wallets?
Yes. You’ll still be able to connect your Web3 wallet as normal if you want more advanced control. Social login is simply an additional option.
Will this work on mobile?
Yes. Social logins work on both desktop and mobile browsers, making it easier to play on the go.
Can I use the same social wallet across multiple devices?
Yes. For example, you can set up a social wallet on a desktop, and then sign in to the same wallet on your mobile by signing in to privy with the same email.
We’re super excited to be getting this rolled out for Season 12. By removing one of the biggest hurdles for first-time managers, we can welcome more players into the game and create even more stories season after season.

📅 Fixture Rescheduling
Since launch, fixture lists have followed a fixed pattern and you told us it didn’t always feel fair. From this season onwards, fixtures are now randomised, just like in real football.
We appreciate this has been a long-requested change. Updates like this require careful design, testing, and implementation to ensure there are no regressions. This change not only makes fixtures feel fairer and more authentic right now, but also lays the foundation for greater scheduling flexibility in future seasons
🆓 Caretaker Managers
Over 250+ managers have already taken part as Caretakers, running a club for free, experiencing matchdays, and getting a taste of Footium without needing to buy in.
Caretaker Clubs are back again for Season 12. If you haven’t secured one yet, this is your chance to jump in and try managing before committing to ownership.
👉 Apply before September 25th to get your Caretaker Club in time for the new season.

🪙 Legendary Auctions Return with GBM
Legendary Auctions are back for Season 12, once again powered by GBM. The Bid-to-Earn mechanic proved a hit last time, letting managers earn ETH rewards even when they were outbid.
We saw plenty of stories like this in the community 👇

🏆 What are Legendary Players?
Legendary Players are the rarest cards in Footium, unique 1/1s with huge potential and long careers ahead of them. Winning one at auction means adding a truly generational talent to your club, a player who can define your team’s story for years.
🎯 How do the auctions work?
- There are 3 Legendary Players per batch, each auctioned individually.
- Format: classic English auction, highest bid at the deadline wins.
- No bid removals. What you bid is locked.
- Any bid in the final 5 minutes extends the timer by another 5 minutes.
- All auctions run via our Footium-branded site, powered by GBM.
💰 Why get involved?
Even if you don’t win the Legend, you still earn rewards thanks to GBM’s Bid-to-Earn. The earlier you bid, the more you can earn back if you’re outbid. That means every auction has chances to win, either the Legend itself, or ETH rewards along the way.
📅 Auction Schedule
- Friday 26th September — Batch 1: 4–5pm BST
- Saturday 27th September — Batch 2: 7–8pm BST
- Sunday 28th September — Batch 3: 6–7pm BST
⏱️ Remember: if a bid is placed in the final 5 minutes, the timer resets back to 5 minutes — so auctions can extend past the scheduled end time.
🔁 Transfer Fee Rewards Update
We want to give a quick note on transfer fee rewards.
In the past, player transfer fees were allocated based on which division players were registered and played a set number of games after a sale. While this worked in principle, in practice it created a lot of complexity, with players moving divisions, OpenSea data and multiple systems to stitch together.
From now on, that portion will instead be split equally across divisions. The actual amount affected is very small (on average per season less than 5% of rewards), so this isn’t a major change. Compared to rewards from things like Legendary Auctions or academy minting, it’s a small fraction. To clarify, the same amount is still going into rewards, just spread slightly differently.
🏴 Scotland Joins the Game
Over the years, we’ve run plenty of polls, votes, and events to decide which new nationalities should join Footium. But one request never went away: “wen Scotland?”
Scotland officially joins the Footium universe, meaning Scottish players will now be coming through academies, appearing across the transfer market, and even featuring in the Season 12 Legendary Auctions. From youth prospects to senior talent, it’s another proud footballing nation ready to make its mark. You might just find the next Scott McTominay or Grant Hanley (doesn’t quite have the same ring as normal, does it? 😉).
Special shoutout to Mozza, who took a 6am flight from Scotland to join our London community event and even split the G on a pint of Guinness while he was there. Proof, if any was needed, of how much passion there’s been for this addition. Community-driven nations will return in the future, but for now: get ready to scout your first Scottish stars.

🖥️ Website Redesign & Building for Growth
With major marketing campaigns on the horizon, we’re overhauling the Footium homepage and landing pages. The redesign makes it clearer what Footium is, why it’s unique and how to get started. It’s sharper, smarter, and ready to welcome the next wave of players.
That’s the bigger theme of Season 12: laying the foundations for growth.
Season 11 delivered the in-game transfer market, one of the biggest changes in Footium’s history. Season 12 is about continuing that work, removing friction, making things fairer, and presenting Footium more clearly to the outside world.
These updates may not feel headline-grabbing and we know they might not be the most exciting changes for current managers, but they’re vital for the long-term success of Footium. By removing friction and laying stronger foundations now, we can scale faster, bring more managers into the game, and ultimately make the experience richer for everyone already here. Once these foundations are in place, we’ll shift gears back to delivering the next wave of gameplay features and you’ll reap the benefits of a bigger, healthier Footium ecosystem.

🪄 Transfer Market Feedback
The in-game transfer market was a huge milestone in Season 11 but it’s only the beginning.
We’re already gathering your feedback and ideas for improvements. Smarter filters, new tools, smoother navigation… everything is on the table.
This is your chance to shape how trading evolves in Footium.
🔧 Bug Fixes & Polish
- Added filter for listed players on transfer hub
- Fixed issue with gap between nav bar and sidebar
- Fixed typo in commentary string
- Fixed issue with prizes not being claimable for non-club owners
- Added cookie approval/rejection

🚀 Let’s go!
Season 12 is about momentum. Almost one year on from first going live, Footium has already seen thousands of matches, dramatic promotions and relegations, and managers testing themselves in the transfer market and auctions.
This one-year milestone is a chance to pause and say thank you. The community has been here through every experiment, every update, and every bug fix, shaping the game as much as the team building it And with the official one-year anniversary of rewards coming up in October, you can look forward to a special message from George to mark the occasion. 👀
