🏆 Rewards Reworked: Every Climb Counts
We’ve listened to the feedback around how rewards are distributed, and Season 9 introduces a more balanced structure aimed at rewarding progress and encouraging clubs to push toward the top.
This new structure is now live for Divisions 1–6, with Divisions 7 & 8 moving to their own tailored models from Season 10.
Football is about rising through the ranks, and we want that to be reflected in Footium. Shoutout to Weld Stanley, the first club to climb from Division 8 all the way to Division 1, this update is designed to make stories like that even more meaningful.
What’s New for Divisions 1-6:
- Top 8 clubs in each division now receive rewards (up from 7)
- Mid-table finishes now earn more
- Promotion places still earn great rewards, but with a slightly lower share to enable a fairer spread

Divisions 7 & 8 will remain on their current reward structure for Season 9. They will move to their own tailored structures from Season 10, which is outlined below.
These are slightly different to the other divisions, with fewer paying positions and more concentrated rewards at the top. Because of that, we wanted to give managers a bit more time to prepare before they go live next season.
Here’s how Divisions 7 Season 10:

Here’s how Divisions 8 Season 10:

These tweaks better match the size, activity and competitive makeup of the lower divisions, while continuing our effort to make climbing more rewarding and reduce incentives to stagnate or tank.
With the new structure, the gap between divisions is much better aligned.
Finishing 5th in Division 1 now earns close to what you’d get for winning Division 3, a reflection of just how hard it is to stay competitive at the top, without devaluing lower league success. This is one of our first steps to make climbing divisions feel more rewarding and to ensure that clubs that reach the top divisions have more reason to stay there.
🎓 Academy Changes: Star Players & Smarter Spreads
We’ve made changes to how your academy works, giving clubs in higher divisions the long-term advantages they deserve.
- Every club now receives 1 Star Player each season, a standout youth prospect with a higher average base rating.
- We’ve also narrowed the rating spread across your academy, making sure that clubs in higher divisions consistently receive stronger youth prospects.
These changes go hand-in-hand with the new rewards system, ensuring that staying in a higher division isn’t just about better rewards, but better academy prospects too.
⚡ One-Click Management
You can now manage your club without signing a transaction every time you make a change.
When you log in, you’ll see a Sign in with Ethereum prompt. If you accept it, all your core actions, from training to tactics to lineups become one-click for the rest of your session. No more repeat pop-ups. Just manage.
What’s now instant:
- Confirming lineups
- Assigning training
- Submitting tactics and instructions
- Mid-match management
You’ll only need to sign a transaction when spending in-game (like academy signings or coaching sessions). It’s a huge quality-of-life improvement for both desktop & mobile management!
💡 Don’t want to use it? You can close the sign-in modal and still manually sign each action as before.
📊 Goal Contributions Are Here
From Season 9 onwards, Club Player Records now track both assists and combined goal contributions (G+A), giving a clearer view of who’s really making an impact.
What this means:
- Creators and link-up players finally get credit
- You can compare attacking output across seasons
- Assists and G+A stats are now tracked separately
Whether it’s a poacher, a playmaker, or a box-crashing full-back, you’ll now have the data to back up their influence.

🏆 Trophy Room & Club Achievements Arrive
You asked, we delivered.
Your club’s legacy finally has a proper home. We’ve added a brand new Trophy Room to the Club History page, a visual achievements panel showing where your club has finished each season across Footium history.
Whether you’ve climbed from Division 8 to the top, dominated for multiple seasons, or had a legendary underdog run, now you’ve got the proof to back it up.

🕹️ Social Feed: Footium is Getting Louder
We’ve always said Footium is a social game and the banter doesn’t stop on the pitch.
We’ve added a new Social Feed to the compliment the Social Leaderboard. It refreshes every couple of days and shows the top tweets from the leaderboard.

You’ll now find a Social button in the navigation bar on the left, giving this feature a permanent home as we continue to iterate and build out the social side of the game.
See what your rivals are saying. Fire your shots. Build your club's voice.
We’ll be awarding a Bronze player to the best club-to-club banter of the season, whether it’s beef with a local rival or a club from the other side of the FFL. Bring the heat, we'll be watching.
🔥 Legendary Auctions for Season 9
Season 9 features three Legendary Player auctions, each packed with elite talent from both new and existing nations.
- Auction 1 Starts: 1pm GMT on June 28th
- Auction 2 Starts: 6pm GMT on June 29th
- Auction 3 Starts: 3pm GMT on June 30th
⚠️ This time around, we’re switching things up due to OpenSea no longer supporting standard auctions. All auctions will now run as Dutch auctions.
Each player starts at 2 ETH, with the price dropping by 10% every 10 minutes over a 3-hour period — or until someone blinks and makes the purchase. Miss your chance, and they’re gone.
Legendary players are Footium’s most powerful assets. They have massive growth potential, long careers, and instantly change the makeup of your squad. They truly are the best of the best.

🎙️ Commentary Polish & Fixes Across the Pitch
We’ve made another round of tweaks to commentary, adding more variety and clarity to key match events:
- Halftime and full-time events now flow more naturally
- Improved descriptions for goal kicks, free kicks, interceptions, and miscontrols
Meanwhile, a round of bug fixes have also gone live to keep things running smoothly:
- 🛠️ Fixed bug where post-match share result button would sometimes show during a match
- 🛠️ Fixed issue with promoted/relegated clubs showing the wrong division in search
- 🛠️ Fixed infrastructure services not restarting automatically
- 🛠️ Removed sidebar training notification when training is turned off
We’re constantly working to tidy things up in the background and your bug reports help a ton.
🏋️ Coaching & Training Go Live with Matches
The coaching system launched last season and it's quickly become a core part of player development.
- You can still pick up coaching sessions from the store
- Training and coaching unlock at 1pm GMT on July 1st, when Season 9 matches kick off
- Use them to grow players faster, try out new positions and maximise your squad’s potential
Season 9 brings some of the most requested and long-overdue improvements to Footium, from smarter rewards and stronger academies to faster management and a more social experience!
We’re actively building a better onboarding experience, ramping up our growth efforts, and investing in the core features that will carry Footium to the next level. Looking ahead, we’re hoping to bring the community together with a potential in-person moment around Season 10 — and you can also expect our next roadmap update in July, continuing the every-three-month cadence we set earlier this year.
Let’s get it.
